A surgical mask’s purpose is to prevent large-particle droplets, splashes, sprays, or splatters that could carry germs (viruses and bacteria) from reaching your mouth and nose. This is accomplished when the mask is worn appropriately. Additionally, surgical masks may lessen your saliva and respiratory secretions being exposed to others.
